Somenos Transition House provides temporary shelter and crisis support for women (with or without children) who are experiencing or are at risk of abuse, or who have been recently sexually assaulted. We are seeking applications for the position of part-time Transition House Counsellor. Qualifications include: - a combination of direct experience (preferably in transition house/crisis residential setting) and relevant training and education. - strong feminist analysis with the ability to articulate and apply in depth understanding of the dynamics and impacts of violence against women - strong crisis support skills relevant to this work are essential. In addition, the successful applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and knowledge of the systems that clients/residents often must navigate (income assistance, MCFD, court, etc.). As well as the provision of support for residents and crisis callers, all staff contribute to the tasks that help to provide a welcoming environment for those seeking service. A valid Class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driver's abstract is necessary. The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations. Current 1st aid certification (emergency 1st aid with CPR) will be required. Approximately 27 hours per week, scheduled between Sunday - Wednesday, with shifts (max. 8.25 hours each) between 8 am - 9:30 pm. The rate of pay is $24.27 per hour, benefits after a 3 month waiting period.
